Montgomery execution stayed by Indiana Judge

Lisa Montgomery had her January 12th execution stayed late Monday by Judge James Hanlon of the Southern District of Indiana. It is believed that Montgomery’s mental state has deteriorated since her conviction for the 2004 murder of Bobbie Jo Stinnett and her unborn child. Montgomery strangled the Missouri woman and cut the child out of Stinnett’s womb. Montgomery had been scheduled for lethal injection Tuesday evening at the United States Penitentiary in Terre Haute. Montgomery was originally set for execution on December 8, 2020; but it was temporarily postponed when her attorney tested positively for Covid-19.
