Bloomington housing development might be rejected because it offers new roads and parking spaces
The Bloomington City Council will review a proposal to develop almost 4 acres for housing on West Hillside Drive near Switchyard Park on April 7th, though the proposal has received mixed reviews from elected officials. The new development would be located along the B-Line trail as seven separate buildings with 19 townhomes, 104 multifamily residences and over 7,000 square-feet of commercial space. Both the City’s Land Use Committee and Environmental Commission are arguing against the development, citing it fails to meet the standards set in the city’s Unified Development Ordinance.  The city council gives it a final review at its next regular session on Wednesday, April 7.

Mortgage assistance available for Hoosiers impacted by Covid
The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) announced today that the deadline for Indiana homeowners to submit new applications for mortgage assistance through Indiana’s Hardest Hit Fund (HHF) is May 3. Indiana was one of 19 states that received money from the U.S. Department of Treasury to help homeowners avoid losing their homes to foreclosure because of the 2009 housing crisis. To date, Indiana’s HHF has provided more than $182.7 million of assistance to over 11,300 Indiana homeowners.

The U.S. Department of Treasury has set a June 30, 2021 deadline for HHF dollars to be expended by states. The May 3 deadline is necessary to ensure there is sufficient time for new applications to be reviewed and a determination made prior to the deadline. Indiana is expected to receive more than $40 million from the new federal Homeowner Assistance Fund to provide mortgage assistance to eligible homeowners financially impacted by COVID-19. This funding is through the American Rescue Plan Act signed into law on March 11.

After the May 3 HHF application deadline passes, homeowners will be given an opportunity to subscribe and receive updates about the new Homeowner Assistance Fund, and other assistance resources should they become available, at www.877gethope.org. The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA), chaired by Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, provides housing opportunities, promotes self-sufficiency and strengthens communities in order to build an Indiana with a sustainable quality of life for all Hoosiers in the community of their choice.
