Search underway for missing Indianapolis man in White River (Marion County)
Indiana Conservation Officers are currently searching for the body of a man who went missing in the White River in Indianapolis Tuesday evening. Lynell Harris, 34, of Indianapolis was last seen attempting to swim to shore after falling from the rock dam just south of Washington Street. Indianapolis Fire Department and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police units searched for Harris for several hours before suspending operations due to darkness. Indiana Conservation Officers resumed the search this morning using boats and side scan sonar.

Indy 500 Will Be Shown Live in Central Indiana
For the just the fifth time ever the Indy 500 will be shown live in Central Indiana. This Year’s race will start with the Green Flag at 12:45 on NBC this Sunday. Normally the race has been blacked out in the Indianapolis Market and shown on tape Delay at 7 pm that night. 40 percent capacity has been announced for this year race with will draw 135,000 the largest sporting event since the COVID-19 Pandemic began in March of 2020. All 135,00 tickets have been sold meaning that officials lifted the local blackout. The Race was shown live in 1949, 1950, 2016 and 2020. 2016 was the 100th running and all 350,000 tickets were sold. 2020 there were no fans and the race was run in August.

Monroe Lake Daily Program Schedule
Beginning Memorial Day Weekend, programs and activities are typically offered at Paynetown SRA (and occasionally at other SRAs around the lake) at least 5 days a week through the summer. Most of them are not featured in this e-newsletter due to space issues. We encourage you to check our FULL ONLINE EVENT CALENDAR prior to visiting Monroe Lake. The online calendar is currently finalized through June 30. The Activity Center at Paynetown SRA will open for the 2021 season on May 28! Summer hours will be Wednesday-Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. As the Activity Center is a State-owned building, facial coverings will still be required inside, per the Governor’s Order on April 6; masks will be available at the door for those who don’t have their own. The Activity Center is located next to the swimming beach at Paynetown SRA. Inside, you’ll find: Naturalist Office, Daily Craft & Coloring Table, Kids’ Play Area, Live Snakes, Wall Displays, Board Games, Puzzle Table, Library, Information, Hoosier Quest, and a Recycling Center (for your aluminum cans and plastic beverage bottles).
