Helio Castroneves Wins Indianapolis 500

Helio Castroneves won his fourth Indianapolis 500 Sunday afternoon.  The 46-year-old Brazilian becomes the fourth driver to win the greatest spectacle in racing four times joining AJ Foyt, Al Unser Sr and Rick Mears. Castroneves won in 2001, 2002, 2009 and he becomes the fourth oldest drive to win the race. Al Unser Sr was 47 in 1987, Bobby Unser was 47 in 1981 and Emerson Fittapaldi was 46 in 1993.  Castroneves his nicknamed Spider Man because he climbs the fence when he wins the race. Castroneves passed Alex Palou with 2 laps to go and beat him by 0.4928 Seconds for the victory. This was the fastest Indianapolis 500 in history with an average speed of 190.690 that broke the record of 187.433. This crowd of 135,000 was the largest crowd at a sporting event since the COVID-19 Pandemic began in March of 2020.

Indiana Baseball Beats Maryland In Regular Season Finale

Indiana Baseball beat Maryland 7-3 in the Regular Season Finale in College Park Maryland Sunday. The Hoosiers finish the regular season at 26-18 and Maryland finishes the regular season at 28-16. The Hoosiers lost a doubleheader Saturday to Maryland 4-3 in 10 innings and 5-2. With no non-conference games and no Big Ten Tournament. The Hoosiers find themselves on the NCAA Tournament Bubble. The NCAA Baseball Selection Show is at Today at Noon on ESPN2.

Edgewood to Face Sullivan in Sectional Baseball Championship Game  

Edgewood faces Sullivan at Noon Today for the Class 3A Baseball Sectional Championship Game at Owen Valley HS. Edgewood is 18-8 on the year Beat Indian Creek 6-2 and West Vigo 6-1 to get the championship game. Edgewood has won 12 Sectional Titles with the last coming in 2019 when they went all the way to State Championship game before falling to Andrean. Sullivan is 11-12 on the season. The Golden Arrows beat Brown County 19-3 in the Semifinals. Sullivan has won 16 Sectional Titles with the last one coming in 2015 in Class 2A. The winner advances to the Danville Regional Next Saturday.

Bloomington South to Face Columbus North in Sectional Baseball Championship Game   

Bloomington South faces Columbus North 6 PM this evening in the Class 4A Baseball Sectional Championship Game at Bloomington North. Bloomington South took down Bloomington North Friday Night 7-1 in the Semifinals. The Panthers have won 18 Sectional titles with the last one coming in 2018. Columbus North beat East Central 4-2 and Columbus East 3-1 to make the championship game. Columbus North has won 13 sectional titles with the last one coming in 2017. The Winner advances to the Jasper Regional Next Saturday.
