Indiana Baseball Misses NCAA Tournament
Indiana Baseball did not make the 64 Team field for the NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Hoosiers finished the year at 26-18 in all Big Ten conference season due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Hoosiers faltered down the stretch losing 8 of the last 10 games. Nebraska, Maryland and Michigan will represent the Big Ten in the NCAA Tournament. The State of Indiana will be represented with Norte Dame getting to host a regional. Indiana State 30-19 will be in the Nashville Regional and face Georgia Tech in the first game. Monroe County will be represented by Edgewood Grad Joe Kido who plays for Indiana State and Bloomington South Grad Jacob Young who plays for Dallas Baptist who will play in the Fort Worth Regional against Oregon State.
Eight Indiana Track and Field Athletes to Compete at NCAA Championships
Indiana University will be represented with eight student athletes in the NCAA Track and Field Championships at Eugene Oregon June 9-12 at the newly built Hayward Field. Khayla Dawson will represent the Hoosiers in Discus and Shot Put in both events for the first time since 1992. Leah Moran will compete in the Long Jump and the Triple Jump. Kelsey Harris qualified in the 1500 Meters. Parker Raymond will compete in the 800 Meters. Ben Veatch will compete in the 5,000 Meters. Anna Wilson qualified in the Pole Vault. Maddy Pollard qualified in the Shot Put and Nathan Young will represent the Hoosiers in the Pole Vault.
Edgewood Beats Sullivan 7-0 in Sectional Baseball Championship Game
Edgewood Beats Sullivan 7-0 in the Class 3A Baseball Sectional Championship Game at Owen Valley HS Monday Afternoon. Edgewood is 19-8 on the year and the Mustangs take home their 13th Sectional Title and the second in a row with no 2020 season due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The Mustangs won the sectional in 2019 when they went all the way to State Championship game before falling to Andrean. Sullivan ends the year 11-13 on the season. Edgewood advances to the Danville Regional Next Saturday. Indiana University Commit Luke Hayden had 18 strikeouts and a No Hitter as Mustangs had 4 hits and scored 6 of the seven runs in the top of the 7th inning.
Columbus North beats Bloomington South 10-6 in Sectional Baseball Championship Game
Columbus North beat Bloomington South 10-6 in the Class 4A Baseball Sectional Championship Game at Bloomington North Monday Evening. Columbus North has won 14 sectional titles and their first since 2017. Columbus North advances to the Jasper Regional Next Saturday. The Bulldogs jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and added two more in the bottom of the 2nd inning to make it 5-0 Bloomington South scored in the top of the 4th to make it 5-1 but Columbus North added 5 more in the bottom of the 5th to make it 10-1. The Panthers added 2 runs in the top of the sixth and three in top of the seventh but it was not enough. Bloomington South outhit Columbus North 14-8 but two Panther errors to one for the Bulldogs was a factor.
