
Indiana University Men’s Basketball gets commitment from Malik Reneau for 2022
Indiana Men’s Basketball got a commitment from 6-8 215-pound Power Forward Malik Reneau Monday afternoon. Reneau played for Montverde Academy in Florida and is a High School teammate of Jalen Hood-Schifino who signed with the Hoosiers last November. Reneau averaged 11.9 points and 6.6 rebounds this past season, including 14.3 points and 8.3 rebounds at the GEICO High School Nationals, where he Hood-Schifino won a second straight prep school national title. Hood-Schifino joined Reneau on his weekend visit to IU after playing in the Jordan Brand Classic All Star Game in Chicago Friday Night. They became the 12th and 13th Hoosiers to play in the all-star game since its inception in 2002. Hood-Schifino scored 14 points and his Team Air squad lost to Team Flight 119-118.
A former Florida signee, Reneau took an official visit to Bloomington over the weekend. He decommitted from the Gators after head coach Mike White resigned. With the addition of Reneau, Indiana’s 2022 class has moved into the top-5 nationally according to the 247Sports Composite, and first in the Big Ten. He joins Jalen Hood-Schifino, Kaleb Banks, and C.J. Gunn in the Hoosiers’ incoming freshman class. The addition of Reneau tentatively fills Indiana’s allotment of 13 scholarships, pending the decision of Trayce Jackson-Davis, who has put his name in the NBA Draft but is eligible to return.
Former IU Running Back Stevie Scott III scores touchdown in USFL debut
Stevie Scott III scored a touchdown for the Michigan Panthers Sunday Afternoon as the Panthers fell to the Houston Gamblers 17-12 at Protective Stadium in Birmingham Alabama in new United States Football League. Scott played running back at IU from 2018-2020 and had 18 carries for 72 yards and 1 touchdown on Sunday. Scott is one of just three Hoosiers to score at least 10 rushing touchdowns in three consecutive seasons, and he is #4 all-time in touchdowns at Indiana, and #9 all-time in rushing yards. Scott was a two-time second-team all-Big Ten selection and one-time honorable mention selection.
Defensive End Jerome Johnson who played at Indiana from 2017-20 had 5 tackles, 3 solo tackles, and 1 tackle for loss playing for the Philadelphia Stars who lost to the New Orleans Breakers 23-17 on Sunday. Johnson played in all 45 games with 29 starts for the Hoosiers. Johnson earned first-team All-Big Ten honors as a senior in 2020, where he helped Indiana to a 6-2 record and a #12 ranking in the final Associated Press poll.
The United States Football League has eight teams that will play a ten-game regular season all in Birmingham Alabama with the top two teams in the North and South Divisions going to playoffs which will be played in Canton Ohio. The Birmingham Stallions beat the New Jersey Generals 28-24 Saturday Night in the Inaugural USFL Game that was simulcast on NBC and FOX.
Indiana University Baseball Travels to Miami, Ohio
Indiana Baseball is on the road at Miami Ohio for a 5pm first pitch this evening. The Hoosiers and Red Hawks are meeting for the second time this season. Indiana won the first meeting at Bart Kaufman Field 15-2 on March 1 to open the home portion of the schedule. The Hoosiers are 13-21 on the season and were swept over the weekend at Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights won 5-3 last Friday afternoon, 4-2 on Saturday, and 10-9 on Sunday. Indiana is 2-7 in the Big Ten. Rookie Josh Pyne is riding the longest reached base streak by an IU freshman in over a decade and is the only true freshman to record a hitting streak of 15 games and on-base streak to 20 games in program history since at least 2005.
Miami (Ohio) enters with a 14-21 overall record and 10-13 mark in the Mid-American Conference. The RedHawks are hitting .282 as a team with a near .380 on-base percentage but have 330 strikeouts (9.4 kpg). Cole Andrews leads the team in average (.317), runs scored (30), home runs (7), RBIs (36), and total bases (84) – and is the only Miami student-athlete to start all 35 games. The pitching staff is limiting opponents to a .264 batting average and a 5.90 ERA. Miami (Ohio) split a four-game series at Western Michigan and Cincinnati swept three games at Wichita State.
Indiana and Miami (Ohio) will meet for the 80th time in program history. IU owns a 42-37 edge in the all-time series which began in 1931. Seven of the last nine meetings have come at McKie Field at Hayden Park on the Miami University campus. Over the last 25 meetings, Indiana owns a slim14-11 edge against Miami (Ohio).
Indiana Softball hosts Notre Dame
Indiana Softball is at Andy Mohr Field at 5pm this evening when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish make the trip down from South Bend to take on the Hoosiers. The Hoosiers are 23-12 overall and 6-6 in the Big Ten. Indiana beat Penn State on the road last Saturday 11-5 but lost Friday evening 6-0 and Sunday Afternoon 8-6. Kinsey Mitchell went 3-for-4 in the Hoosiers victory. Cora Bassett hit .300 on the weekend with three hits, including her 12th home run of the season. Brittany Ford hit two home runs on the weekend. Indiana has scored 68 runs this season with two out, including 11 games in which they have scored three or more runs with two outs. Cora Bassett is hitting .500 on the season with two outs. The Hoosiers have already surpassed their home run total from a season ago. Indiana has 45 home runs through 35 games this season. Last year the Hoosiers tallied 28 home runs in 44 games.
Notre Dame comes in with a 31-9 overall record and 10-5 in conference play. Most recently the Fighting Irish lost a series at Clemson 2-1. Notre Dame has ranked wins over LSU, Texas, Duke and Clemson this season. Notre Dame is hitting .330 on the season as a team and their pitching staff have a combined 2.50 era. Indiana leads the all-time series 10-9 against Notre Dame.

Indians Host Columbus Clippers to Start Six Game Series
The Indianapolis Indians hosts the Columbus Clippers this evening at Victory Field in Indianapolis with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 pm. The Indians are 6-5 on the season while the Clippers come in at 9-3. Indianapolis is looking to snap a three-game losing streak after losing over the weekend at St Paul. The Indians won the first two matchups last Tuesday and Wednesday while Thursday’s game was postponed due to inclement weather. The Indians pitchers combined for the franchise’s 15th no hitter last Wednesday as Chase De Jong, Austin Brice and Yerry De Los Santos combined for the 5-0 win. The Indians and Clippers will have afternoon games Wednesday at 1:35pm, Thursday at 12:05pm and Sunday at 1;35pm. The teams will meet Friday at 7:05 pm and Saturday at 6:35pm.
